Jef Jaisun "Brand New Rose"
Score: 70 (Mainly for the music and the exclusivity factor.  There's not much comedy.)
Scores range from 0 to infinity, infinity being best.

Brand New Rose, an LP that Jef might sell you if you bug him enough.
Recorded in 1978.  Reviewed September 15, 1997 by Eric Houg

Jef Jaisun is #1 on the Funny 25 for 1975 (according to Jef Jaisun)

Top 5 Tunes:
1  Gonna Hold Out Till My Food Stamps Come
2  Apricot Wine
3  Brand New Rose
4  Heartbeat Is Risin
5  Iggy's Tune ('46 Oldsmobile)

In general these songs are full musical accompaniment, drums, things that toot, not just guitar as in Friendly Neighborhood Narco Agent.

Iggy's Tune ('46 Oldsmobile)
Who's goosing that Oldsmobile?  This is a folk song / happy tune.

Brand New Rose
Deeg dat crazy Calypso, mon.  Beechin tune!

Apricot Wine
This sounds great!  Sure there's a bunch of jazzy good tunes that I may have heard and didn't pay much attention, but this is that Friendly Neighborhood Narco Agent song guy, so I'm strangely interested.  It's so different from his only song I knew before.  There's like all these musical instruments and stuff.

Gonna Hold Out Till My Food Stamps Come
I'm really eager to put down the first lousy song I find on this album, so as to add some balance to this review, but unfortunately this tune is not it.  Gotta boogy!!!!

(Strange that I would wanna boogy to a song about being out of work.)

Dollar Bills
Slow tune with a little bit of country music sound.  Jeez, this guy's all over the place.  There was some kinda message here about saying how you feel, but not much message.  Finally, a song that dares to be boring.

Jef:
Heh. I was gonna try to sell Ronstandt on it, but just about that time she did Elvis Costello covers on roller skates.

Heartbeat Is Risin
Sounds like this will be the pop tune... Yep, there it goes, pop pop poppin.  Whoa yeah. (not in the bad vinyl pop way)  "I tripped on your love and fell flat on my face."  :)  Made me think of Van Morrison
and The Allman Brothers.   "Won't you please get a sponge and pick me up off the ground", heh heh, another good line.

See You In A While
A slow mellow song about the road, the rain, darling, and all that rot.  There should be more car crashes and smashing guitar sounds in this song.  And kazoos.  There isn't a single kazoo in this song.

I Smell Like 90 Weight
I think this is gonna be the demented tune.  Yes, it is, sort of.  But the first few songs were better.  Lily Tomlin would do a song like this.  Amen, Mr. Preacher Man.  Well the vinyl is talking again
talking again
talking again
Oh well, it was getting boring anyway.

Jef:
Never had a skip problem on this tune. Lemme know if the vinyl is messed up.
Of course, maybe you need to glue a quarter onto your tone arm. :)

The Empress
Uh oh, a ballad.  If not a ballad, then something like what Chicago would play, but not as catchy, followed by a long Allman Brothers type jam.  45 RPM speed, here we go!  (Eric spins the record with his finger.)  Scotty: You cannot take it any faster, Jim!  The whole record player's gonna blow up!

Jef
Btw, 90 Weight was recorded live on an only take (except for the horns); ditto The Empress except for the vocals. Find me a band that takes those kind of chances these days.
